Chew & Tell, by Penny

Yes, it is true. I am a princess.

Not in a bad way, but I'm very particular about what I eat. Mom has created a monster by making homemade treats for us and my favorite are her special liver brownies.

She's not always able to bake for us (because she's LAZY) so she's been on the hunt for a healthy treat that I will actually eat. Here are my favorites:

Stella & Chewies Carnivore Crunch (grain free), beef or chicken

(Chicken ingredients: Free-range chicken, chicken bone, chicken liver, chicken heart, organic kelp, organic flax seed, fortified with vitamins and minerals. Analysis: Min. Protein 42%, Min. Fat 36%, Max. Fiber 1.5%, Max. Moisture 6%.)

These are quiet yummy but a bit big for training. They're they size of a grape & good if your human doesn't really like stinky treats. I like both the beef & the chicken.

Plato Smart Dog Treats, Salmon Flavor

(Salmon Ingredients: Salmon (preserved with natural mixed tocopherols, citric acid and rosemary extract), Organic brown rice, Organic sea salt, Zinc proteinate, vitamin supplement, coated ascorbic acid (source of vitamin C), glucosamine sulfate, carotene. Analysis: Crude Protein (Min) 38%, Crude Fat (Min) 15%, Crude Fiber (Max) 1%, Moisture (Max) 28%)

Oh my DoG...these are so delicious!! They are soft so you can break them up into small pieces and they are SUPER STINKY!!

I turned my nose up at the Chicken and the Duck Flavors...still a princess.

Zukes Z-Filets, Chicken or Beef

(Chicken Ingredients: Chicken Breast, Rice Flour, Maple Syrup, Garlic, Sea Salt, Mixed Tocopherols. Guaranteed Analysis: Min. Protein 30%, Min. Fat 5%, Max Fiber 3%, Max. Moisture 20% )

I love both the Beef & Chicken flavor of these treats. The treats are HUGE, but can be broken into small pieces easily.

Charlee Bear Natural Nutrition Snacks (grain free)

(Ingredients: Ground Chicken, Broccoli, Spinach, Carrots, Sweet Potato, Turkey Livers, Turkey Hearts, Fish Meal, Ground Almonds, Natural Smoke Flavor, Kelp. Analysis: Min. Protein 42%, Min. Fat 37%, Max. Fiber 4%, Max. Moisture 9%. )

Now these...these are my FAVORITE treats of all. They are ultra stinky and Sherman, Lola & I will push each other out of the way to get to Mom if we hear the bag. These win the award for "Penny's favorte treat in a bag!"

Mom bought all of these goodies at sitstay.com.

Now that my belly's full, I'm going to enjoy a Lazy Sunday.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Staff Sargent Sherman...reporting for duty

Last week, we got a new mission from the AO4. Sorry, I'm a little behind Dave...I've been doing quality control in the mess hall.

Dave made our orders very clear and I wanted to let him know that Staff Sargent Sherman is reporting for duty! I will tell you how I'm planning my strategy.

Jackman Avenue is now secure.

Stuffie Removal...step by step

My gal pal Luckie Girl is a very skilled surgeon. She's performed countless opawrations on many stuffies and her recent work on Mr. Cow is a shining example of her talent. In addition to being a Diva, I too, am a stuffie surgeon. My primary skill is squeaker transplants. Extracted squeakers can be donated to many deserving stuffies that have a broken squeaker...or were born without a squeaker.

I start by inspecting my stuffie to determine the primary spot for extraction.

In this patient, Greenie Hedgehog, that would be his belly. I use my scalpel (aka, my teefers) to make a small incision along the abdominal cavity.

I then begin removing Greenie Hedgehog's guts, being very careful not to damage the squeaker.

Once extracted, I massage the squeaker with my lips to ensure it is in good working order.

It was touch and go for a moment...Greenie Hedgehog's squeaker momentarily stopped squeaking!

But I performed SSR (Stuffie Squeaker Resuscitation) on it and it sprung back to life! Whew! That was a close one.

I know all of you DWBers out there have it in you to be skilled surgeons like Luckie & I. It just takes a lot of determination and practice, practice, practice. Your humans will have to provide you with many specimens to brush up on your skills. It ain't cheap putting us doggins through school (and they thought they were getting off easy!)

Now get to work!

We interupt our regularly scheduled blogging...

Even though I have 3 beautiful, healthy, perfect dogs (OK, perfect most days), I'm still in the habit of checking out local rescues & shelters websites...just to look. I was doing that today when I came across a dog that broke my heart.

This is Charlie. And his story is the kind that keeps me up at night.

Charlie was used as a stud dog for a Pennsylvania puppy mill. He was kept in a rabbit cage his whole life and was only taken out to breed with other females. When he stopped "producing", the bastard that owned him was kind enough to turn him into rescue. He said Charlie was "a good dog. He gave me lots of puppies". There is a special place in hell for people like him.

Right now, Charlie is a looking for a foster home and with lots of love and special care, he will hopefully have a year or two living in the lap of luxury.

This is just a gentle reminder to never support puppy mills or backyard breeders. The puppies may tug at your heartstrings, but they most likely have a Dad (and Mom) who has suffered for years...just like Charlie.

Oh, and yes, I've already told Scott we should foster him and yes, he's already said No.

We're not neglected, just our blog!

It is finally cooled down around here and we are all SO excited. We're finally getting lots of great walkies and enjoying temps in the 60s. Unfortunately, that means Mom has been totally neglecting out blog.

Today was pretty much the perfect day. Penny & I went on a walk all over the neighborhood for an HOUR! I spread so much pee mail, I ran out at the end! Then Mom walked Lola for 45 minutes and we spent the rest of the morning hanging out in the yard.
Penny & Lola played with their big tomato...

And chased each other all over the yard.

I hung out and supervised. And for the record, I was not digging a new hole. Swear it.

Then we hung out on the deck & ate big giant marrow bones...not to many days left for us to snack alfresco, so we stayed out there as long as we could.

See how sunny it is here! And even better, it's only in the 60s. Ahhhhhh, I love Fall!
Penny was kind of bummed that the Steelers didn't play today so she & Lola took a nap in the afternoon.

I just hung out & chewed some more.

We'll be around to visit everyone tomorrow!

Happy Barkday Butchy!!!

After a long debate, Lola has convinced me that Sherman should come to Butchy & Snickers Superfun Campout! (She's a total suck up to Sher-Man.) It's Butchy's Barkday & we're gonna spend a whole weekend whoopin' it up! There will be lots of toasting weinies over the fire & Jackson is bringing sausages all the way from the UK for snacking!

No, I'm not thrilled that Sherman is tagging along. He just had his very own campout in Merryland a few weeks ago. Yes, I'm pouting.

But he has his own giant tent and he'll be sleeping all alone & not bothering us. That is, of course, unless Dot is coming and then he'll be occupied in the tent for the whole weekend. All the better!

Lola & I will sleep all snuggled together. As always.

We're all catching a ride on Aire Ruby...Sherman is riding in the cargo area as he exceeds the weight limit for passengers.
Happy Barkday Butchy!!!

We'll see you soon!!!

Why I love DWBs!

I don't think I've been officially tagged for this game, but I wanted to play anyway. There's been a Tag going around...5 reasons I love Dogs With Blogs.

Here are mine:

1. You guys (and girls) LIKE me!! In my daily life, I don't really run into too many friends. I'm kind of old and grumpy and insist on humping any boy dog I meet. But on DWBs...I have a whole bunch of Friends!! Wally is my BFF, but I'm pretty tight with Joe Stains (another grumpy fella), Fig (she may be a girl, but she's a grouch!), and Balboa and Boo and Duke and Rockford and Texas...the list goes on & on!

2. Dot. My DoGness...she is so beautiful. I never would have guessed I'd have a girlfriend. I'm one lucky fella.

3. You guys make my Mom very happy. She laughs and laughs when she reads about your adventures. And being a Mama's boy (dont make fun.), when Mom is happy...Sherman is happy.

Here's a little secret...my DAD even reads your blogs! HA! He used to think Mom was losing it, but then he gave it a try. He's totally hooked.

4. Presents!! I could never imagine how much fun it is to send our friends presents!! I just steal Mom's plastic card and hit the internets. I don't even mind sharing my Chewies. I feel just like Santa Claus...big & jolly! Oh, and it's fun getting presents too.

5. Pictures. Mom didn't really take that many pictures of us before she started blogging. But now she has thousands! And I totally don't mind posing for the camera. I'm pretty handsome. And there are usually treats involved.

There are many more reasons I love DWBs but I'll stop here. You guys are the BESTEST!

Interview with a Diva...by a Diva

The Most Fabulous Ruby Blue has tagged me for an interview. Better put on the formal wear!

Ruby is any exceptional Diva and won the award for best costume at our 70s Dance Pawty!!

Ruby threw some hard questions my way! So here we go!

1) You have talked many times about going to camp. In fact if memory serves me correctly, you were the spokes model for your camp. Do you like going to camp? What do you like about it? Does it bother you that Penny and Sherman don't have to go, or is that ok?

Yes, it's true. I LOVE Camp Bow Wow! And if you click on the link, you will see I am STILL the spokes model for their website! I go to Camp most Saturdays and play all day with my friends. And when Mom picks me up, I am pooped & sleep all night. I think Penny & Sherman like a little time alone with Mom...she usually takes them on a long Saturday walk together. (and Lola...they need a break from you!)

2) What were some of the challenges you faced becoming the '3rd' in a two dog kennel?

Hee Hee! There were no challenges for ME! Penny & Sherman took a while to warm up to me. Penny was a little quicker and in fact, Sherman has never really warmed up to me. I have a little too much energy for him.

Going from a 2 dog house to a 3 dog house was more of an adjustment than Mom & Dad realized. Sherman & Penny had a nice little routine going & I came along & threw a wrench in the whole works! Plus I was a puppy so I needed EXTRA attention. But it's all worked out now & we're one big happy family (even Sherman!).

3) What is your most favoritest thing to do in the whole wide world?

Chasing Tennis Balls in my back yard! I could do it all afternoon.

4) Aside from your BFF Tadpole, are there any other special 'pup boys' in your life? Inquiring minds want to know.

Tadpole is the most special...he is my BFF and ever and ever and ever. But my hometown boy is Apache. He's a terrific playmate!

But on the internets, I have LOTS of pup boys! Marvin is my main squeeze. But I also have big time crushes on Zimmie, Stanley (I know he's taken Ruby...but doesn't Everypup have a crush on Stanley?), Sparky da Puggle and that fuzz butt, Eddie. I have lots of love to go around!

5) If you could meet and person/pup in the world (living or dead) who would it be and why?

Well, it would have to be Ch. Blanka v. Angertor. Blanka is very important in the history of the Boxer breed as she is credited with adding the "Flash" to fawn & brindle Boxers. Blanka's daughter, Meta von der Passage, is considered the mother of the Boxer breed.

Thank you Ruby for those very challenging questions! You could give Barbara Walters a run for her money!

Here are the rules of this Tag:

1. If you are interested in being interviewed, leave me a comment saying, 'interview me.'

2. I will respond by posting five questions for you. I get to pick the questions.

3. You will update your blog with a post containing your answers to the questions.

4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Helping at School

On Saturday mornings, Mom goes to the Western PA Humane Society to help her friend Bob teach obedience classes. Penny has gone with her before, but this week I got to go too!!!

This is the crappy part. Penny & I had to stay in this ExPen while Mom helped the other puppies learn stuff.

But the coolest part is, Penny & I got to wrassle after school and we had so much fun!! I love my big sister Penny SOOOOOO much. She is totally the bestest big sister EVER!

Tags

We've been a little lazy & have gotten behind on our Tags, but we haven't forgotten!
The Kapp Pack & Clover tagged us for what vehicle best resembles or shows your personality.

Well, mine is obvious...a Lamborghini. I'm sleek. I'm fast. And I have expensive tastes.

Lola would definitely be a Mazda Miata. I've got 3 words for you...Zoom, Zoom, Zoom. Enough said.

And Sherman, well DUH! He's a Sherman Tank. The big Chub just bulldozes his way through anything that's in his way (including me). And he weighs a lot.

Clover also tagged us for 5 nicknames we call our Mom. Well, this is what I call her:

1. Jenny
2. Personal Trainer
3. Canine Chef Extraordinaire
4. Treat Lady
5. Mom

I don't know who hasn't been tagged yet, so I'm tag some Pugs....Seadra & Zoe, Duke & Gidget and The Four Pugs. You're It!

More Pictures!

So here is the lake. Mom took this picture off the dock at our place. What she did not take a picture of is me jumping IN the lake.

I kind of scared myself so I wouldn't do it again but I did wade around in the shallow part (and drank lots of water!).

I had a great time herding the waves.

OK, so this is not a picture of the lake, but nothing ends a post like a nice fluffy butt shot!
