I failed to mention that I had already bought a new camera but had yet to use it. It's actually a really nice one, a Canon PowerShot S2 IS.
But it's SO out of my league! It has so many bells & whistles that I have no idea what to do with and I'm so inimidated by the stupid thing, I haven't used it at all!! And it's huge!
Sooooo, I went out & bought an Canon Elph, which is so much more user friendly. And little.
My plan was to sell the Big Powershot on Ebay, but then I started playing around with it this weekend & it's actually not as bad as I thought. The pictures are great and maybe I'll take a photography class or something.
So now I have my fun little camera & my big obnoxious camera.
I was playing around with the b.o. camera this weekend...taking pictures of the dogs on the front deck...fiddling with the zoom & the various settings. The pictures turned out OK.
And I shot some video. Here's what I learned in doing that:
1. You can take a picture while filming video!
2. Pressing the shutter button does not stop the video from shooting.
3. I sound like an elephant when I walk up stairs.
4. I always sound ridiculious when talking to my dogs...not just when I think I'm making a movie.
5. Sherman pooped in the yard (he very rarely does that!).
6. I talk to myself.
Anything I missed?

Well, I don't know what to say about that video other than sure your mom learnt a lot of that camera!
My mom has an Easyshare camera too, and she's been thinking about a new one. Sure she will take your advice.
Have a good night

woah mom is jealous of all your camera choices!! she has one canon but she just LOVES it.
Oh nice cameras! Oh and look at that Canon! Nice! A little big, but professional, no? My human has a Fuji... it's also a little big and she is constantly whining that it takes a lot of space in the bag. Humans!
Owh, you got Canon camera? Hmmm... my mommy used that brand camera last time before she got the new one Pentax & she said Canon got this problem of eating up too much batteries. She even asked the professionals(the sellers I mean) they say it's true... That's why she decided to chuck that lousy camera & get Pentax.
The Pentax camera's real good & sharp BUT when taking video, she can't zoom in & out. She can zoom in or out before she starts the video... weird huh? Well, we can't have both things in one camera right? Hehehe... Your camera's not bad, sharp too!
Love licks,

Cool camera. Mummy needs a new camera she wants a handbad sized one.
Simba xx
That's quite a selection of cameras. My mum's is a cheapie non-branded bargain that was equivalent of about $80, but it's pretty good!

We have an elf, too! I tried to goad him to bake me cookies but he just sat there like a dumb silver box. The other ape has a big obnoxious camera (he has b.o!) but we usually use the Elf.
wally.
I have the S3 IS -- it was quite a stretch from all the CVS disposable cameras I have been using for so long.
I used it as a point and shoot for the first year, and only recently have been playing with some of the settings. I love the zoom, but I swear the first day it was already not enough. :)
I've never had a problem with battery drawdown -- the opposite really, I often expect the batteries to be drained more quickly than they are.
I do hate how you get no warning about battery state until two seconds before the camera shuts off.
The biggest flaw for me for Canons is the shutter lag. It makes all the difference in the world for action shots.
The S5 comes out in June with higher resolution capacity which is a big draw for me since the current models are just on the razor edge of minimum resolution limits for a lot of print work.
You have a beautiful house! The flowers at the front are very preeetty too!
I thought it was really cool that you can take pictures while filming. Maybe Daddy should get one of this camera.

Reina
Hey Jenny, Your house looks almost identical to a house I used to own in Calgary, circa 1912. I loved that house! It had a great warm feeling.
P.S. This is Sophie's mom .... not Sophie ... she has no money of her own and really, no interest in real estate.
Hi Jen,
I'm in the market for a new camera...my Canon elph is about 5 years old. So I'll be interested on what you think as you start to use the beast camera vs the petite camera. LOL.
Your house is so cute!!!!

J1 also favours the "shaking hand" video technique! She also never realised quite how strange she sounded talking to me until she heard it played back through the video. No wonder we get strange looks when we're out! J x
Hee hee hee! You crack me up!
Sherman pooped in the yard? Where does he usually poo?
ha roo!!! That was a funny video!!! I have a Kodak Z650... er Mom has it! The video does pretty well, but you cannot zoom in and out with it.
Hugs,
Sitka
All you need is a few stick figures hanging in some tree branches and a few well timed screams and you've got yourself the next "blair witch" movie. :-)
Very cool elph. I was actually looking at that one myself. We have an old elph that uses "real" film that we still use and we love it.

Our Mom just recently got a new camera too. She's constantly chasing us around with that thing!!! Zoe was getting so tired of it that she was starting to hide when she would see the camera so Mom had to back off a bit with the picture taking.
Love, Seadra and Zoe
Cool house!
I gotta tell mom about that awesome camera.
